How much will it cost?

An initial consultation will cost R950. We will provide a quote for all your chosen procedures and treatments and walk you through the payment process. For elective procedures we require upfront payment.

In addition, we are one of the only surgical practices that do not charge for post-surgery follow ups for 6 months after your procedure.

Will my medical aid pay?

Following your consultation – we will give you the ICD10 codes and procedure codes for you to check with your medical aid. Should your medical aid require it we can provide a motivation letter for the medical aide. Your medical aid will evaluate the claim depending on their rules and exclusions the final decision is made by your medical aide considering your cover.

Medical aid does not pay for elective cosmetic surgery, however there are institutions that assist with financing for uncovered procedures such as medfin.co.za.

What happens if there is a complication?

Should a complication arise – all our surgical fees are waived as we assist you through this however any standard hospital and facility costs are not in our control and will be charge. We will work together with you to make it clear in the event of a complication arising.

When must I go for my covid test?

You are required to have a negative COVID result less than 48 hours before your surgery is booked. Our surgical timetables are impacted by governmental lockdowns and hospital capacity – however we will always remain in communication with you about any changes to our bookings.

What scar cream and tape do you recommend?

We have experienced the best results with taping of the would and the Scar Science and RegimA creams. The protective tape we use is a non-allergic brown tape.

What sunscreen recommend?

Anything between SPF of 20 and 50. An SPF above 50 can damage the skin. Please feel free to contact us on consult@rsplasticsurgery.co.za if you want to find out more.

What can I expect during my recovery?

While all procedures are slightly different – every effort is made to keep you comfortable. Some procedures may require a drain to be fitted post-surgery to assist in monitoring the wound fluids – this will be removed when we see less than 24 ml of fluids in 24 hours. We will talk to you about your specific procedure during the planning phase to make sure everything is clear.

Will the procedure be painful?

Each person has a different level of pain threshold – however we do our best to make sure everyone is comfortable and pain medication is prescribed both in and out of hospital. It is important to be honest about the level of pain you are experiencing so that we can give you the correct medication.

How will I know if something is wrong?

Following a procedure, it is important to monitor your health carefully – should any of the following symptoms appear you should contact us immediately:

• You have a temperature above 37.3 which is unaffected by taking a paracetamol-based medication.
• Your drainage volume increases or is exhibiting very red fluid.
• Your wound area is red, tender, painful and throbs.

When can I go back to work?

While this differs according to the number of procedures you have and your individual healing results, you should plan for a minimum of 2 weeks, and 4 weeks for any surgery affecting the abdominal area – like tummy tucks.

When can I drive again?

It differs for each person and procedure. In general, you need to plan for a minimum of 2 weeks for breast surgery and 3 weeks for surgery affecting the abdominal area – like tummy tucks.

When can I have a facial again?

You need to wait for a minimum of 6 weeks before having a facial after any treatment. This can differ from person to person as some skin types are more sensitive.

When can I have sex again?

You need to wait for a minimum of 6 weeks after any procedure before engaging in sexual activity. Should you be experiencing discomfort or complications please check in with us to review this date.

How long after the operation can I exercise?

 Most people can start their exercise regimes 6 weeks after a procedure. This does depend on the individuals comfort level and healing progress. It is also advisable that you do not overexert yourself when you are starting up again, start small and listen to how your body responds. Following a tummy tuck Dr Ralph will advise when you may begin exercise again.
